As Clear as Glass: A Case of Severe Disability Neglect in a Remote Virginia Prison (2026) by Kevin “Rashid” Johnson

James Glass is a 70-year-old Black disabled man imprisoned at Keen Mountain Correctional Center in Virginia’s remote Western region. According to a report from Kevin “Rashid” Johnson, Mr. Glass suffers from diabetic neuropathy, severe lumbar stenosis, constant nerve pain, and severe mobility limitations. He reportedly cannot access showers, outside recreation, the library, religious programs, visitation, or basic activities available to other prisoners.

He uses a walker, but a walker is not access. A prison that lacks ramps, handrails, wheelchair access, physical therapy, and adequate medical support cannot warehouse a disabled elder and call it care.

UPROAR has launched a campaign demanding that VADOC immediately transfer James Glass to Deerfield Correctional Center or another medical and disability-accessible facility capable of meeting his needs. We are also demanding real ADA accommodations, preservation of all related medical and disability records, and protection from retaliation for Mr. Glass and prisoner witnesses.

On the campaign page, you can send a one-click email to VADOC, Keen Mountain officials, Western Region officials, vadoc ada contacts, Health Services, and Governor Spanberger’s office. You can also use the call scripts to demand that James Glass be transferred now.

Please also help us spread the campaign by sharing UPROAR’s posts:

Every email, call, share, and repost helps build pressure. VADOC must not be allowed to bury this in paperwork while James Glass remains trapped in a facility that cannot meet his basic disability, medical, mobility, and program-access needs.

Dare to struggle, dare to win!

In solidarity, Evi
