Afrika in My Veins (2026) By Kevin “Rashid” Johnson

The most beautiful scenes
In nature
Are nurtured in me
Rhythms of drums
Work in me
Moving me
Like a memory
Programmed from times
Forgotten
Before I was even begotten
Wisdom from ancestors
Taught in
Places far away
Nature’s incenses
Wafting on the breeze
Under canopies
Of exotic trees
Swaying in time
Like the motion
Of erotic bodies
That bind and move
As fluid as the oceans
Alien to today’s notions
Of selfishness
Envy and greed
Grow from alien seeds
In lands that
Ripped our histories away
In those precarious days
In nefarious ways
That took us from
Our loves and lives
From lineages as old as time
United with
The universal mind
Stole us away
Our bodies in binds
By people
Of a different kind
And though transported
Far away in time
And place
Afrika still remains
In that space
Of our being
Where freedom
Will always reign
Between heart and brain
Feeding my soul
The blood of Afrika
Remains
Beating like drums
In my veins
