Where’d you learn
To walk that way
With that swag and sway
We called it pimpwalking back in he day
Or simply pimpin’
Cuz pimps did it
Traipsing like they was limping
With rhythm
But I gotta give ’em the way
This whole way of
Moving started
Not just talking
But in the beginning
It was called cakewalking
Slaves did it
Putting on
Strutting like a rooster
Around the women
It was an ego booster
But they also
Did it for the sake
Of winning a piece of cake
From the owner
Who would have them
Put on a
Show when visitors came
This is how it got the
Name
For a piece of something sweet
The slaves would compete
Seeing whose swag was best
In a cakewalk contest
They’d prance around
Just like today’s
Danceoffs
They was gettin’ down
Matter of fact
This is where dance contests
got their inspiration
Slaves cakewalking on plantations
Because of the ease with which
Many performed
And the sweet reward they’d take
There came the
Term for a thing done easy
“It’s apiece of cake”
