It’s the little things
Not diamond rings
Expensive digs
Or shiny wigs
Not money spent
Nor places you went
The little things
Like shower songs he sings
With you on his mind
That special effort to be gentle and kind
When he knows you’re stressed
And things are a mess
It’s that tender smile
When it’s been a while
Since he held you
Smelled you
On his clothes
Massaging your unpainted toes
Little things
Like handpicked flowers he brings
And places before you
Saying how he adores you
The random call
When there’s no reason at all
Except to say, “Hi, I love you
“I just wanted to hug you”
When you’re alone
And he phones
To ask how you’re feeling
His instincts know your heart needs healing
Big things come periodic
Little things are automatic
After a hard day
He avoids the parley
Sits with you quiet and still
Prepares your meal
Attends to the kids
It’s the small things he did
It’s his kiss
The moments you miss
When he’s away
That makes thoughts of him stay
On your mind
And you find
Yourself daydreaming
Even scheming
In your mind
Of ways to find
Your way to where he is
To get back to being his
Little things like the note saying hey
When you’ve gone away
Cuz when you really love another
Doing little things is no bother
You’ll always find time
To show they’re on your mind
That they have someone who cares
Who will always be there
And have their back without strings
