LOST LIVES BETWEEN TEXAS AND GAZA (2025), by Kevin “Rashid” Johnson

The Texas floods
were a disaster
The slaughter in Gaza is deliberate
ongoing, much faster
Between Palestine
and the U.S.
Color, nationality and religion
makes their lives worth less
Every single child
is precious
But Amerikans only care about
those who live next to us
Just compare
the coverage you see
Tens of thousands dead in Gaza
not a word on casualties
While the lost flood lives
are on every tongue
Eulogies to the dead and missing
humanize every one
Summer camps washed away
over here
Bombs dropped on tent camps
where children huddle in fear
Few remains recovered
in both places
But we never see the grief
on Palestinian mothers’ faces
In Texas an overflow
of aid
In Gaza starving people
seeking food got slayed
If you’re not from here
and your skin isn’t fair
You can die by the millions
Amerika doesn’t care
It’s why they could dismiss
as a casual joke
That the slogan “Black Lives Matter!”
gave a jolt to Black folks
From New Afrika to Palestine
we share your grief
Two occupied peoples
still fighting to get free
Our hearts go out to Texas
for your loss
But our souls align with Palestine
paying a far greater cost!
