RETURN TO THE SOURCE OF PEOPLE POWER (2026) By Kevin “Rashid” Johnson
Our women
Have a “Me alone” mindset
Taught that success means
How much she alone can get
In our communal past
The whole family were providers
It wasn’t one doing alone
The entire village stood beside her
The household wasn’t
Him or her alone
Elders aunties uncles
Lived together in the same home
Along with the fathers mothers
And children
A village under each roof
That nurtured fed and built them
In these societies
None dared mistreat her
No man beat her
Because women were the clan leaders
There were no kings or queens
In these times
Elders were veneered
Not royal bloodlines
We didn’t worship gods
We paid homage to ancestors
We united with nature
As the source of our blessings
Now it’s all about
Getting to that bag
We’ve forgotten the community
The unity we had
We’ve been under attack
For generations
So now we’re divided by
Competition envy self-hatred
It cuts to the quick
In our relationships
The insecurity immaturity
Afraid at every turn we’ll slip
Ever wary
Of being deceived
Are the faces we see real
Can he or she be believed
It boils down
To being a class war
We’ve been taught by our enemies
What to look and ask for
And as for how we treat each other
We’ve forgotten we’re brothers
To cherish our women
Like our mothers
As more than just lovers
We must realize
No nation survives
Believing its enemies’ lies
Seeing itself through its enemies’ eyes
Being taught the values
Of those who made us victims
So now we back stab each other
Lie just like those who tricked us
How do we escape
This morass?
We must restore the values
Of our communal past
Along with revolutionary theory
Practice and work
That puts the interests
Of the entire working class first
Across the world oppressed people
A united force
With Afrika’s Diaspora
Set back on course
Of the communal culture
That first made us all equal
Returned to the source
Of All Power to the People!
