DESPERATION LOVE (2025) by Kevin “Rashid” Johnson

Sometimes a heart

Is left in suspension

With no one

Worthy of mention

To give it individual purpose

To give it life

Like a close ally

A comrade or wife

Sometimes a heart

Has been so taxed

It yearns for a mutual

With whom it can relax

A loyal and trusting

Intimate or friend

Someone it can hide with

While on the mend

But when the search proves futile

And it flies like an aimless dove

One may alight from flight

Fall in desperation love

A one-sided affair

Not of the mutual kind

A love manufactured

By one’s own desperate

Of which the partner

Takes unfair advantage

Causing the heart

To suffer further damage

But if it can manage

To survive being tossed

By a tempest to and fro

All may not be lost

But there will be onion layers

Of proud flesh and scars

Constant wariness and distrust

Like the trauma of many wars

One will need a breakthrough

To peel back and rise above

The pain and loss multiplied

By desperation love
