the wisest of us
are self taught
who escape the trap
of being caught
in the web lies
fed in the formal schools
of our oppressors
trained with abnormal rules
deformed
and used
for generations
as tools
of our own exploitation
hiding the truth
of history
from our youth
how we have been
and continue to be
misused and abused
from slave ships
to plantations
to now being stationed
in the lowest occupations
dirt poor
told we’re not worth more
than the crumbs
we’re made to work for
yet we were
the work force
that built this
entire empire
from ground up
as we were ground up
like pulp
from peaceful communities
rounded up
where they found us
millions kidnapped with impunity
depopulated a continent
of diverse societies
of peoples of all varieties
it began
first with Arab invasions
then by a people called Caucasians
today its being done
by Russians and Asians
it’s been
our autodidacts
who search out
facts
hidden from Blacks
like Hubert Harrison
like Malcolm x
Huey P. Newton and
George Jackson were next
self educated
all became revolutionary
the natural result
of learning our true history
centuries of suffering
where we came from
generations of terror and fear
how we got here
the floods of blood
sweat and tears
destroyed families
lost communities
the deliberate
destruction of every
attempt at unity
our names, histories
and cultures stolen
this is why the status quo
doesn’t want us knowing
anything but the lies
their schools teach
as they practice the opposite
of what they love to preach
political systems
equally dishonest
used to disarm us
do nothing but harm us
only true history and ideology will
arm us
now cast away into prison cells
the final destination
of young Black males
made to believe what we
endured and survived was mild
only a fool lets their enemy
teach their child
