There was a time
\nnot so long ago
\nwhen it was fashionable
\nto hang us from ropes
\nto crack racist jokes
\nto use racist tropes
\nthen came a world war
\nthat armed the world’s poor
\nwho then saw
\nwith guns in hand
\nthey could even the score
\nso across the globe
\nthey said “no more!”
\nthey declared
\na third world war
\nwhere the whole world saw
\nthe third world at war
\nwith the imperialist European
\nwho saw them as less than
\nhuman beings
\ncalling anyone
\nwith skin ranging from
\nblack to natural tan
\nhalf devil half man
\nbut they were beaten
\nforced to submit
\nforced to remit
\nstolen territories
\nbut they didn’t quit
\nonly changed the game
\nstopped with racist names
\nthen shifted blame
\nonto us for our
\npersistent poverty
\ncaused by their persistent robbery
\nusing now
\nnative puppets
\nthat look like us
\nand took our trust
\npretending to fight
\nthe rapacious whites
\nbut they were bought off
\nthat how we were we caught off
\nguard
\nwe never even thought of
\nthe possibility
\nthat our own would be
\nkilling me

\ngiving free
\ncontrol of our resources and labor
\nto the enemy
\nbut now we see

\nby design
\na neocolonial crime
\nto render us blind
\nwhile we were still racially hated
\nwalked on

\nnow regarded as
\nhalf devil half child
\nthat sly fox
\nthat Malcolm X
\ntold us about

\nwe’re the racists
\nswitching places

\nand most Black folks
