BLACK HISTORY MONTH ALL YEAR (2023)<\/p>\n

There are some of us who
\nAppreciate the attention,
\nOne month of the year
\nFor our “honorable mention.”<\/p>\n

A special recognition
\nOf some Black achievements,
\nAnd a few mild acknowledgements
\nOf our many bereavements.<\/p>\n

But our history happens
\nEveryday,
\nThe accomplishments of a people
\nIn every field and every way.<\/p>\n

The very ones who
\nbuilt the U.S. nation,
\nWith forced labor, brutal
\nViolence in every occupation.<\/p>\n

In the cities, factories
\nAnd on slave plantations,
\nEven fought other oppressed people
\nManned every battle station.<\/p>\n

We’re not some inferior
\nFolk,
\nWho only deserve one month
\nTo be ego stroked.<\/p>\n

Acknowledging we exist
\nBy white recognition,
\nAs if our lives are a privilege
\nBased upon white folks’ permission.<\/p>\n

In fact we are something
\nMore than Black,
\nWe are a nation of people
\nWhose identity is held back.<\/p>\n

Cuz as a nation
\nWe have distinct rights,
\nThat Amerika suppresses
\nSo we don’t stand and fight.<\/p>\n

To assert entitlements under
\nU.N. conventions,
\nThis is why we’re given
\nOne month for honorable mentions.<\/p>\n

As nothing more
\nThan a race,
\nA marginalized people
\nWho are freely displaced.<\/p>\n

Being a nation
\nDoesn’t mean,
\nA flag and borders
\nOr an anthem to sing.<\/p>\n

It means we are a
\nPeople constituted by a history,
\nOf distinct economic life
\nCulture, speech and identity.<\/p>\n

State power does not
\nA nation define,
\nA nation is a people
\nEvolved together in place and time.<\/p>\n

As distinct from other
\nSocial groups,
\nWho have a right to fight
\nAgainst oppression mobilize their own troops.<\/p>\n

We aren’t subordinate, inferior
\nTo the Amerikan occupation,
\nWhich is really a prison house
\nOf marginalized nations.<\/p>\n

AmerIndians, Chicanos
\nAsians to name a few,
\nAll of darker hue
\nThis includes you.<\/p>\n

The whole point of being
\nRacialized,
\nIs to strip you of your identity
\nTo depoliticize.<\/p>\n

Your actual status
\nRecognized by international creeds,
\nIncluding the right to fight
\nAgainst your oppression and even secede.<\/p>\n

Things Amerika doesn’t want
\nYou to know,
\nBecause it changes the whole
\nRelationship of them to you.<\/p>\n

This is why Black history
\nIs set aside,
\nTo give a platform to those of us
\nWho prefer to hide,<\/p>\n

Who we really are behind
\nMere race,
\nAnd make it seem that we owe
\nSome allegiance to this place.<\/p>\n

That has done nothing
\nBut deny, enslave and degrade us,
\nUse, abuse, lie, deny
\nAnd underpaid us.<\/p>\n

As Amilcar Cabral said
\nA nation of people are only free,
\nWhen they control their own
\nCultural life, identity and history.<\/p>\n

Occupational forces
\nGun us down in the streets,
\nAs we sit defenseless
\nIn the face of unmet basic needs.<\/p>\n

What we must see as the
\nTakeaway,
\nWe are New Afrikan and as such
