Amerika has always denied,
\nHolding political prisoners…
\nthey lied.
\nFrom original Panthers
\nto anarchists and
\nanti-imperialists,
\nThey’ve always exiled
\nexecuted or locked away
\nthose who were serious.
\nAbout challenging the status quo
\nremoved so they couldn’t show,
\nThe masses
\nthe truth they know.
\nHow capitalism robs
\nthe working class,
\nAnd Amerika the ‘great’ was built on a past.
\nOf slavery and
\ngenocide,
\nInvented racism designed to
\ndivide,
\nEveryone at the bottom
\nwith lies.
\nTo hide
\nthe corruption and abuse
\nthat still goes on,
\nExploiting the entire globe
\ndestroying homes.
\nRobbing Third World resources
\ninvasions occupations,
\nDrone attacks
\nmarginalizing Blacks
\nassassinations.
\nThat kill thousands more bystanders
\nthan actual targets,
\nBombing weddings
\nfunerals and markets.
\nAnd holy places
\nwhich they manage,
\nto dismiss as
\ncollateral damage.
\nFact is these soft targets
\nare intentionally not missed,
\nBecause intended
\nto sap the people’s will to resist.
\nInternally the poor and people of
\ncolor marginalized,
\nOppressed nationalities
\nracialized.
\nA system sustained by real organized crime,
\nBy violence and mayhem
\nof the worst kind.
\nThis is why there are
\nscores and scores,
\nof political prisoners and prisoners of war.
\nRight here in the USA,
\nWhom we must struggle
\nto free today.
\nMumia, Jamil Al-Amin
\nLeonard Peltier, Herman Bell,
\nJust a few
\nwho
\nfor political reasons
\nare held in cells.
\nDavid Gilbert, Robert Hayes,
\nMany more confined
\nsince way back in the days.
\nAnd for those who managed to get free,
\nMost soon died from deadly disease.
\nContracted while inside,
\nA roll call of some who died:
\nRussell Maroon Shoatz, Kathy Boudin
\nMarylin Buck,
\nAlbert woodfox
\nit wasn’t bad luck.
\nThey were held until
\nrendered frail and ill,
\nDeteriorated and forgotten only then
\nreleased from jail.
\nTheir memories must be
\nrevived their praises sung,
\nFrom the world’s largest prison system
\nall must be sprung.
\nModern day razor wire plantations,
\nContinuing to consume a new generation.
\nOf the peoples freedom fighters,
\nIncluding this writer.
\nAnd those
\nthat stand against the outrages
\nthe people deplore,
