There were no races
\nBefore 1676,
\nDuring that time
\nEuropeans and Arikans were mixed.<\/p>\n

On the plantations
\nAs servants and slaves,
\nUnited as one
\nCradle to grave.<\/p>\n

They suffered lived
\nLoved and died the same,
\nThen in 1676
\nRevolt came.<\/p>\n

Nathaniel Bacon
\nA planter himself,
\nHad a vision
\nTo enhance his wealth.<\/p>\n

By raiding Indians
\nOn surrounding lands,
\nBy the government knew
\nThey couldn’t stand.<\/p>\n

All the first nations
\nBanded against them,
\nSo they rebuked bacon
\nAnd this incensed him.<\/p>\n

In turn
\nBacon went into a rage,
\nIncited a revolt
\nUnited servants and slaves.<\/p>\n

Promised them freedom
\nIf they would ride,
\nAgainst the government
\nOn his side.<\/p>\n

The revolt was lit
\nAnd they burned down,
\nThe colonial capitol
\nAt Jamestown.<\/p>\n

The governor
\nWilliam Berkeley fled,
\nAnd Nathaniel Bacon rose
\nTo the head.<\/p>\n

Of power won by
\nA slave uprising,
\nSix months later from the flu
\nBacon died and.<\/p>\n

English reinforcements arrived
\nTook command,
\nRegained control
\nAfter one last stand.<\/p>\n

Of Afrikan rebels
\nWho refused,
\nTo return to slavery
\nAnd its abuse.<\/p>\n

Back in power
\nThe planters realized,
\nThey were outnumbered by slaves
\nAnd had to devise.<\/p>\n

A system to divide their numbers
\nAnd themselves protect,
\nUse one part of the poor
\nTo keep the rest in check.<\/p>\n

It was this need
\nAnd at this time,
\nThat they first invented
\nThe color line.<\/p>\n

In 1682 created laws
\nDividing negro and white,
\nPhased out white servitude
\nGave them guns to fight.<\/p>\n

Against the Blacks
\nWhom they portrayed,
\nAs ordained by god
\nTo be permanent slaves.<\/p>\n

Taught the poor whites
\nThat they were the brothers,
\nOf the rich planters
\nBased on skin color.<\/p>\n

Then they created a force
\nFor armed control,
\nUniting all whites
\nInto slave patrols.<\/p>\n

With muskets hounds
\nAnd on horseback,
\nTo terrorize and keep
\nBlack slaves in check.<\/p>\n

Meantime the planters
\nThrough the churches and schools,
\nPerfected their system
\nOf divide and rule.<\/p>\n

Portraying blacks as evil
\nThe lowest of life,
\nInventing all sorts of
\nDehumanizing stereotypes.<\/p>\n

This is how racism
\nFirst began,
\nSo effective at mass control
\nIt spread across the land.<\/p>\n

And is still used
\nFor control today,
\nWhenever the masse rile up
\nThose in power play.<\/p>\n

The race blame game
\nInciting the people based on color,
\nTo turn their outrage
\nAgainst each other.<\/p>\n

Even though today
\nScientists deny,
\nThat races exist
\nAnd expose the lie.<\/p>\n

Invented by political conniving
\nFor social control,
\nThe race game still
\nHas a secure hold.<\/p>\n

On masses of people
\nBecause it remains a tool,
\nOf the capitalist system’s
\nDivide and rule.<\/p>\n

The game works
\nBy inciting division,
\nWhether its white black
\nRed or brown chauvinism.<\/p>\n

What we must do
\nAmong ourselves,
\nIs realize its the tool
\nOf those with wealth.<\/p>\n

To keep the workers and poor
\nAll at bay,
\nAnd divert our attention
\nAnd struggles away.<\/p>\n

From the common enemy
\nWho once again,
\nIs the wealthy minority
\nWith their hands.<\/p>\n

In control of all the power
\nAnd basic things,
\nThat working people create
\nAnd we all need.<\/p>\n

To survive
\nTo live and thrive,
\nSo we must unite and fight
