\nWith that swag and sway
\nWe called it pimpwalking back in he day
\nOr simply pimpin’
\nCuz pimps did it
\nTraipsing like they was limping
\nWith rhythm
\nBut I gotta give ’em the way
\nThis whole way of
\nMoving started
\nNot just talking
\nBut in the beginning
\nIt was called cakewalking
\nSlaves did it
\nPutting on
\nStrutting like a rooster
\nAround the women
\nIt was an ego booster
\nBut they also
\nDid it for the sake
\nOf winning a piece of cake
\nFrom the owner
\nWho would have them
\nPut on a
\nShow when visitors came
\nThis is how it got the
\nName
\nFor a piece of something sweet
\nThe slaves would compete
\nSeeing whose swag was best
\nIn a cakewalk contest
\nThey’d prance around
\nJust like today’s
\nDanceoffs
\nThey was gettin’ down
\nMatter of fact
\nThis is where dance contests
\ngot their inspiration
\nSlaves cakewalking on plantations
\nBecause of the ease with which
\nMany performed
\nAnd the sweet reward they’d take
\nThere came the
\nTerm for a thing done easy
