Every little girl
\nShould know her name,
\nFrom the bowels of
\nRepression and calamity she came.<\/p>\n

Wrung poetic lyrics
\nOf love from raw pain,
\nFrom a system designed to break
\nShe remained untamed.<\/p>\n

Gave herself over wholly
\nTo our freedom fight,
\nSo the pigs tried to assassinate her
\nThat night.<\/p>\n

On the Jersey Turnpike
\nAlongside Zayed,
\nWho they actually slayed
\nAnd Sundiata fled.<\/p>\n

Shot her point blank
\nHands up don’t shoot,
\nHer will to live for the people
\nEmbedded limbs to root.<\/p>\n

A true comrade sista
\nShe survived the impossible,
\nBrutal abuse neglect
\nEven by pigs in the hospital.<\/p>\n

Where they beat her tortured her
\nEven threatened rape,
\nBut she clung to life
\nEndured racist hate.<\/p>\n

A continuation of a long train
\nOf fighting oppression,
\nFrom the earliest age
\nShe learned the lessons.<\/p>\n

Of resistance
\nOf persistence
\nOf never giving in,
\nOf daring to struggle
\nOf deserving to win.<\/p>\n

Organized with the Panthers
\nResisted chauvinist men,
\nRecognized our fight
\nWas for the future of our children.<\/p>\n

For the armed struggle
\nShe was all the way down,
\nJoined the Black Liberation Army
\nFought in the underground.<\/p>\n

They put her in a men’s prison
\nThought it would break her will,
\nBut it made her stronger
\nTurned her mind to steel.<\/p>\n

Where she molded it
\nHoned it made it razor sharp,
\nSo her wit would sit
\nLevel with her heart.<\/p>\n

Every effort to stop her
\nWas doomed to fail,
\nConceived a beautiful child
\nFrom inside a cell.<\/p>\n

She embodied the thing
\nSlavers most fear,
\nThe will to war
\nTo protect our kids.<\/p>\n

They thought a cell would stop her
\nBut it wasn’t to be,
\nThe love of the people
\nSet her free.<\/p>\n

And surpassed borders
\nTo the Cuba isle,
\nWhere she found asylum
\nTo live free in exile.<\/p>\n

The meaning of her name
\nFits her to the core
