When I exalt the name Mandela,
\nI’m not invoking the fella.<\/p>\n

Compared to her weight in gold,
\nNelson couldn’t hold.<\/p>\n

A single penny,
\nYes, I’m speaking of Winnie.<\/p>\n

The heart and guts of the two,
\nShe was the true.<\/p>\n

Fighter
\nServed the people with her all,
\nNever wavered
\nRemained at their call.<\/p>\n

Lived and suffered by their side,
\nFor the hungry she’d ride.<\/p>\n

Commandeered convoys
\nOf water, clothes and food,
\nFaced down racist soldiers
\nTo deliver those goods.<\/p>\n

Refused to be cowed,
\nNever once bowed.<\/p>\n

Broke an apartheid officers neck,
\nFor disrespect.<\/p>\n

For daring to enter her home,
\nWhile she was alone.<\/p>\n

Even under house arrest,
\nShe defied their tests.<\/p>\n

How many times was she banished,
\nThey hoped she’d vanish.<\/p>\n

But she’d come right back,
\nWith not even a crack.<\/p>\n

In her armor,
\nNever avoided the drama.<\/p>\n

Stood by her man imprisoned for decades,
\nHow many would have stayed.<\/p>\n

Her pride was rooted in the people,
\nDignified and the equal.<\/p>\n

Of any white in power,
\nAbove them all she towered.<\/p>\n

Even wore Nelson’s betrayal,
\nWith dignity, and his false portrays<\/p>\n

Of himself as unbroken,
\nAs he became a token.<\/p>\n

A black face given the wheel,
\nBy racist whites who continued to steal.<\/p>\n

The wealth and power of the masses,
\nHe became a neocolonial tool of the classes.<\/p>\n

Ruling South Afrika
\nThe wealthy white elite,
\nHe tricked the underground fighters
\nTo come in off the streets.<\/p>\n

Exposed them all
\nSo they couldn’t return to the fight,
\nStaged a one-man counterrevolution overnight.<\/p>\n

Released from prison to high office elected,
\nOnly because he defected.<\/p>\n

Denounced Winnie and tried to make others hate her,
\nFor her role in correcting a snitch a traitor.<\/p>\n

But the people’s love of this comrade sista ran deep,
\nNestled in third bosom the would keep.<\/p>\n

Her in life and beyond,
\nHer example will inspire generations to come.<\/p>\n

Not just in Azania
\nBut around the world,
\nWhat greater role model
