\nSaw himself like a monk
\nWandering with a leaky umbrella.
\nDevoted to the people
\nNever grew tired,
\nTo be a good teacher
\nIs all he aspired.
\nRejected opportunism on the right and left,
\nHis love of the people his only wealth.
\nPossibly the greatest revolutionary mind,
\nOf all time.
\nBut not because of
\nAny strain of genius
\nA dialectical materialist,
\nTook philosophy serious
\nFought the imperialists.
\nGrasped the essence
\nOf class struggle,
\nEncouraged the poor to make trouble.
\nSo many mistruths
\nSpoken about his contributions,
\nTo generate confusion.
\nAmong the people
\nWho most need his example,
\nTo stop their rights being trampled.
\nLike the lie of a great famine
\nInvented by the CIA,
\nHe led a peasant army
\nin defeating the U.S.A.
\nIn the Korean War
\nFresh from a Civil War,
\nIn China
\nHe’d won the year before.
\nManeuvering like playing
\nThe board game Wei Chi,
\nDeveloping the People’s War strategy
\nSo we’d see.
\nHow to defeat a stronger adversary,
\nLimitless options which always vary.
\nWith numbers on our side,
\nIn plain sight we can fight and hide.
\nCreating a real New Democracy,
\nNot the capitalist hypocrisy.
\nThat only gives you the choice of which,
\nYou might choose to rule from among the rich.
\nWho will keep you living hand to mouth,
\nSuffering throughout
\nThe global South.
\nA genuine comrade
\nNot merely a friend,
\nTaught us to dare to struggle
\nSo we’d dare to win.
\nHe defied the strong
\nLoved by the throngs,
\nA revolutionary giant
